Rollerblade Lightning 80 vs 90 vs 110: Which One to Buy

Updated October 2026Specs from Rollerblade

The quick answer

All three Lightnings share the same moulded shell, the same memory-buckle closure (cuff buckle, 45° strap and laces), the same Lightning liner with Rollerblade's Footboard Sizer, and a brake in the box. What changes is the wheel setup:

Lightning 80
4 × 80 mm Urban wheels (85A) with SG7 bearings. Rollerblade aims it at recreational and fitness skaters who want comfort, support and easy control.
Lightning 90
4 × 90 mm Hydrogen SE wheels (85A) with SG9 bearings. Rollerblade calls 90 mm "the ideal mix of speed and control", more forgiving over small debris, and aims it at intermediate skaters who want more speed.
Lightning 110
3 × 110 mm Hydrogen SE wheels (85A) with SG9 bearings. Rollerblade's pick for a faster, more dynamic ride.

How to choose

Lightning 80 if you are new to skating or want the easiest control. Rollerblade rates it from "new to skating" up to advanced, and gives it the best braking of the three.

Lightning 90 if you already skate and want more roll per push for commuting and fitness, while keeping four wheels.

Lightning 110 if speed matters most. Rollerblade rates its roll "faster" than the 80 and 90, with less braking power, so it suits skaters who are already confident.

Men's or women's?

Rollerblade lists the same shell, liner, closure, frame, wheels and bearings for the men's and women's Lightning 80 and 90. The differences are colour and size range: the women's models run EU 35 to 42.5. There is no women's Lightning 110; it is one unisex model.

Sizing

Rollerblade says the Lightning has a snug fit and recommends half a size to one full size larger than your usual size. The Footboard Sizer insert can take the fit down by about half a size. Check your foot length against the size chart on the product page before you order.

Questions we get

Does only the Lightning 80 come with a brake?

No. Rollerblade puts a brake in the box with all three.

Is the Lightning 90 the same skate as the 80 with bigger wheels?

Same shell, closure and liner, but it also gets Hydrogen SE wheels and SG9 bearings and a longer frame.

Is the liner heat-mouldable?

No. Fit is adjusted with the Footboard Sizer.
