Sizes that grow with your child

Every skate in this collection is sold in size ranges, for example EU 28-32, because the boot lengthens as the foot grows. Measure your child's foot from the heel to the longest toe, then check the size chart on the product page: each range lists the foot lengths it fits. If the foot is already near the top of a range, take the next range up so the skates last longer. Sizes start at EU 26 and run to EU 42, which is where many teens switch to adult skates.

First skates

For a first pair, look for a hard boot that supports the ankle, a heel brake and small wheels, which roll slower and feel steadier. Most of the range is made for beginners and most models come with a heel brake. On adjustable models the wheels grow with the size too, from about 62 mm on the smallest boots to 76 mm on the largest.

For kids who already skate

Children who skate every week often outgrow beginner skates in skill before they outgrow them in size. Intermediate kids models add a stiffer boot and bigger wheels, from 76 up to 90 mm, for more speed. Junior speed skates such as the Powerslide Triple X, Flying Eagle S7 Speed and FR J Club roll on 84 to 100 mm wheels for club training and races.

Buckles, straps and laces

Most kids skates close with a buckle at the top, a strap or ratchet buckle over the instep, and laces or a toe strap below. Buckles and straps are quick for small hands, while laces give the closest fit. The K2 Raider and Marlee use a BOA dial that tightens the whole boot with a turn.

Helmet and pads

Add a helmet and a set of knee, elbow and wrist pads. Kids feel more confident with them on, especially in their first sessions.
